When Aha arrived on the scene back in the mid 80's on the
wave of their animated hit maker "TAKE ON ME", many listens like myself
rode out the single and for the most part moved on, I had enough of it, but, there was
always something new to look forward to in the 80's. Music
was all over the place and thats what I loved about so much
of what came out then. Every generation has its share of one hit wonders and it was hard to pick out true artistry through the
hair and makeup but Aha and their first collection after repeated listens just stood out to me. There was some really
great pop songs, different for the tastes of those here in the
USA but still excellent. I had always loved the Moody Blues
and Jethro Tull,Joni Mitchell, The Doors, Bonnie Raitt, Steely Dan to name some and knew that Aha's vocalist was
very gifted and he was working with a great band and they had
so much potential to be classic. I hadn't heard this first
collection in over 10 years when I noticed on Amazon.com that
they had a new comeback cd out in 2000 and I went back and found I had
saved their first two cds and began to listen to Aha again as
well as buy their lastest and I've been really impressed with
their style and songwriting as well as Morten Harkets beautiful
voice. This first collection has so many great musical moments, it really showed the potential this band could have, they've
since moved into their adult phase and they've just continued
to improve and impress even though they are being ignored by the music world, especially here in the states???
I just wish "HUNTING HIGH AND LOW" would be remastered as it has to many great songs to be ignored and the upgraded sound
quality would only make these songs better.
