Review Score:

(8/10)
My previous review was only 1 star less, but the difference between 3 and 4 is considerable. Simply, the music has grown on me, and songs I dismissed previously I now have quite a quench for. That doesn't mean I've changed my mind on the policies of Emotive that are overwhelmingly anti-war. But I have changed my view of MJK, from superior lyricist and vocalist to well, superior vocalist and schizophrenic lyricist.
Coming from a man like Maynard James Keenan, I'm sorry, I don't bite. Someone who has always had a grudge against the world, or wait a minute...was Aenima just a show - 'I wanna watch the ground give way, I wanna flush it all away, mom please flush it all away' - Well, I suppose he was grumpy that day, and maybe Emotive is his true self calling out. Or maybe he just dislikes George Bush, but I doubt that, and would write something entirely different if that was the case. I believe that MJK is simply using Emotive. There is no way someone with so much overt aggression towards the trash in todays society, can suddenly disregard his previous ambitions and THE reason why he and Tool are so vastly recognised. He's success is only due to such anti-social lyrics, completely opposite to Emotive, which generally says 'war is bad, peace is good, love is what you need, forgive people for their sins etc' MJK poses handsomely as Jesus. IF MJK does in fact have a new drive, well thats fine, but don't expect as much popularity. Just take a look at the 3.5 star average, as apposed to the grandiose 4.5 of APC's other anti-social albums. I take a different approach, and honestly believe Emotive is one stinking heap of a publicity stunt, deliberately provoking, TRYING TO CHANGE HIS IMAGE as mister hate. 4 stars on that principle, 1 if in fact MJK has lost all sense of direction and producing social anti-war we need peace crap.
To be honest I disagree with war, in certain circumstances. Iraq is not one, and is necessary to settle the Middel East. I do feel American troops are too gung-ho in their approach, here in England they have always been laughing stock for killing just as many allies as enemies. So I disagree with many morals in Emotive, but thats ok by me. There have been WAY TOO MANY wars caused by false pretences and/or unfit dictactors, which I do disagree with, such as Vietnam, WWI, WWII. Considering ALL of these songs (the ORIGINALS) were not about the current Iraq war, to hell with it, these songs ARE NOT ABOUT THE IRAQ WAR, so why should I be offended.
As for the music, well it's grown on me. Imagine I have always approved of, but songs I previously dismissed without thought such as Peace Love & Understanding and Lets Have A War, have become favourites. With this I will improve my star rating, disregard the B.S about anti-Bushism considering the above, and be on my merry way.
