I am not anti-war. I have been a Perfect Circle fan since Mer De Noms came out and haven't looked back. Thirteenth Step is no doubt their most inventive and adventurous album to date. True brilliance yet to be rivaled by any other band so far in the new millennium. I was half-excited, half-wary when the band announced that their new album, eMOTIVe, would be coming out, but that the majority of the songs were anti-war covers(personally I found it rather unwise to release such an album right on Election Day, because frankly they wouldn't succeed in changing any minds when polls began to open anyway). I didn't buy it when it came out. I have never been and never will be a liberal and thought that it was pointless to absorb myself in lyrics I didn't believe in. After purchasing aMOTION, I copped out and decided to complete my collection. Having listened to it, I must say you don't have to be anti-war or independent to listen to this. The band's musical genius which I have come to adore over the years is still evident, especially in "Peace, Love and Understanding" and "What's Goin' On". I heard that people were disappointed by the covers but my outlook on such an effort is if a band makes a classic sound like the original, they've failed. APC has in my opinion successfully added their own unique touches, and like their previous works, the album closes with a nice, quiet little rendition of "The Fiddle and the Drum". Would I recommend this to a skeptical fan or an average music listener? Definitely.
