A Perfect Circle

Mer de Noms

Hard to grade

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
As i stated above this album is very hard to grade. But before i decide to go anywhere with this let me first say some things.

Mer De Noms, and A Perfect Circle itself is no side project. i am not making this up and i am NO fanboy nor am i hear to bash this album, i am merely a mmusical enthusiast who plays no instruments but can understand good music when he hears it. As was stated above and by Maynard James Keenan himself ohh, about a thousand times, A PERFECT CIRCLE IS NOT A SIDE PROJECT NOR A HOBBY FOR ANY OF THE MEMBERS INVOLVED. it is not necessarily his new abnd (though i believe iot seems so) but nor is it a side project. I AM a Tool fan going into this so if u dont like Tool maybe stay away,a nd i ma not going to amke endless comaprisons.
Now that that is out of the way know this, Mer De Noms in my opinion is an INCREDIBLE cd. It however is NOT Tool, yes the poetry is their, yes a slight twinge of sound is there but A Perfect Circle is very much its own distinguishable sound and Lyrics. this abnd has Billy Howerdell (guitar tech from Tool), Maynard JAmes Keenan (vocalist from Tool and a few others involved.i dared to buy this CD though i heard it was alright to great i ahd no hesitation i purchasing it. In short, i love it. The music is stunning, the poetry is amazing and the full range of style encompassed here ranging from electrified Rock to more soft melodious tunes to un-identifiable jammin' i cant express how i feel about this.
To be honest howveer, some of the tracks had downright starnge and/or annoying parts TO ME. As in Sleeping Beauty, it flows very well, i love the soing but near the end they inserted saome most bizzare sound that lasts for a few moments not an animal or anything sort of like percussion bells or soemthing that tends to detract from the mood of the whole song for me. And in Orestes where he says scream and then a starnge melodious voice rings in is kind of well...ruining to the flow though not completely destructive to the album nor the song.
All in all, i recommend this to everyone to at least give a listen, DO NOT however go into this album thinking it will be Tool, i hate when anything is overshadowed by its predecessors, and dnt think its a side project because from Maynards own mouth it is NOT. And do not go in, listen to a single song then dismiss it as crap, i like every song pretty much except for a few bits and pieces of composition. Give EVERY song a try before u dismiss this album because the mood, style and genre (someytimes all its own) chanegs from song to song and no two r really alike though somehow distinguishable as A Perfect Circles music.
So, i suggets everyone taKE A LISTEN AT THIS ENTIRE cd, if you dont like it i am sorry to hear that no hard feelings. if you do, then i am happy to hear another fan has enjoyed this wonderful Album, it does have its downs and ups, but in my book, the pros far outway the cons.
