A Look Back

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
I don't know if Tribe will ever get back together, but I popped in this CD after some five years after listening to it, and I think it's good. I'm a hardcore Tribe fan and also a music fan.

First, let me say this wasn't their weakest album, People's was. Maybe I'm radical, but all of the other albums after that chart a growth musically. Like Prince, The Beatles, and Santana the beginning is a far cry from the end or their later stuff. Hopefully, this isn't the real end for them, since I've heard a couple of tracks since their "Breakup." The only reason I'm not giving this album 5 stars is because Tip's rhymes were weak, weaker than they've ever been. But this is an album a head of it's time. Looking at artists like Common, Outkast, and Black Eyed Peas, Tribe did what they did years before...when it was unheard of.

That being said review time:

Start it Up: I bought this album in London in 1998. I was really into Drum and Bass and the then new Garage music. While this track isn't quite either one of those, it hit me back then. It sounds kind of urgent.

Find a Way: I think this was the first (and only) single from this album. "*pant* *pant* *pant* Speaking of which, I got a leash and a wish, just to rock you miss...." This was the only radio friendly song on the album. If continued with this kind of sound, they would've had another classic on their hands.

Steppin' it Up: People always say Scenario Remix was the hardest Tribe song. I agree, but this comes a close second. Busta Rhymes and Redman shine.

Like it Like That: I like this one, definitely chill music. The hook....well, the hook killed it.

Moms: I nearly wet myself when I heard this. This is what is known as "Baby making music!"

Mutty Ranks: We already knew Phife had skills, but he would always be Ringo. But he was starting to get harder.

Busta's Lament: Another track I really liked. Nice lyrics, sort of prophetic to what was happening in the community.

Against the World: This is Electric Relaxation pt 2 or Bonita Applebaum pt 3. Another chill track

Love: This should've been the last track. It sums up the whole album, and what it was done for. Not for the bling-bling that everybody is talking now, or the money, guns and hoes, or songs where the topic is something trivial like: My White Tee or Air Force Ones. It was for the "Love" of the music. Something people, six years later are realizing is gone.

Hope they come back, music misses them.
