Low End Theory

A landmark in hip-hop

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
The Low End Theory is certainly one of the best hip-hop albums ever recorded. Q-Tip and Phife Dawg are two of the best rappers in the genre in both delivery and lyrical content. The production is top notch throughout whether the track is carried by a deep bass groove or if it's more laid-back material. The insertion of jazzy horn lines, keyboards, and spare guitar lines are very creative throughout. The band is in top form here whether it's laid-back tracks like "Verses From The Abstract", "Vibes and Stuff", and "Jazz (We've Got)", or the harder beats of "Everything Is Fair", "Show Business", and "Scenario", which features an excellent rap from a then-unknown Busta Rhymes. "Butter", "Skypager", "Rap Promoter", and "The Infamous Date Rape" are also strong tracks. "Check The Rhime" shows Q-Tip and Phife are at their best, bouncing lines off the other effortlessly. Every track here is great, the album is really one long highlight. All hip-hop fans should own this. Highly recommended.
