A Tribe Called Quest

Low End Theory

A Proven "Theory."

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
When critics discuss the greatest albums of the 1990s, they usually point to rock staples such as Nirvana's "Nevermind" or U2's "Actung Baby." A Tribe Called Quest's "A Low End Theory" is just as qualified a classic as those records, and it stands as one of the best releases of the last 20 years, regardless of genre. "The Low End Theory" is suave, stylish, hip, masterful, and cool. Q-Tip shows that he's one of the most skilled rhymers around, though Phife holds his own well, too. The jams set slammin' beats against jazzed-up samples, and they work well on tracks like "Check the Rhyme," "Jazz (We've Got)" and "Vibes and Stuff." But they save the best for last on the bangin' closing track "Scenario." The Tribe would last for another three albums before their demise, but they left an indelible mark on the 1990s with this straight-up classic.
