Could have been better

I have been an AC/DC fan for many, many years and I was really looking forward to hearing this box set tribute to Bon. However it is a bit of a disappointment. Don't get me wrong the music is awesome, of course, but the choice of material included is a bit of a cop out, especially if you are a long standing AC/DC fan. The Live at Atlantic Studios disc is very, very good. Unfortunately, I have had a bootleg CD copy of this for many years which was mastered from the original vinyl and it sounds much better than the CD included here. However if you have not heard the disc before it is great stuff indeed. The double live CD from Paris is also excellent. Proof that AC/DC were in their natural element on a stage. The Volts disk has a few curios but is inconsistent and also includes material available elsewhere. Finally Back in Black has no place here at all IMHO. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know - it is a tribute disk of sorts etc. etc., but the fact remains that it doesn't feature Bon and it really was the start of AC/DC Phase II. The box set would have been better served with the inclusion of other unrealeased stuff from the Bon Scott era. There must be more rarities and archive stuff around. What about Crabsody In Blue or Cold Hearted Man? At the end of the day the box set is worth buying because judged by the music alone you can't go wrong, but while it could have been a really special tribute it is just a good compilation from the glorious years of '74-'79.
