While the best of Ace of Base can be found on "The Sign", this album is by far their most solid overall effort. The techno/dance pop is still the best element of the band making "Beautiful Life" the best song, but they show a new strength for ballads here producing such gems as "Edge of Heaven", "Ravine", and especially "Experience Pearls". By far the worst song has to be "Lucky Love" with an out of place acoustic guitar and totally nonsensical lyrics giving it an almost (shudder) country feel to it. Also, 15 songs is a rather large album, which is good, but if I had to make it tighter, I'd remove the aforementioned "Lucky Love", as well as "Que Sera", "Whispers in Blindness", and "Blooming 18". That would make the album a bit tighter, but all those songs (barring "Lucky Love") still add to the album rather than detract. An unexpected bonus was the in depth liner notes which contain the history and personal meaning of each song on the album. On the whole, this album's a real treat. It's just a shame they couldn't keep it up with their next release....
