Okay, I guess this would fit into the definition of "female atmospheric metal" but still appease the Darkthrone fan as well. This CD is NOT ugly like Darkthrone, but it still retains everything that makes bands like Darkthrone great. As I March is probably my favorite on the album, one of my favorite black metal songs ever, and definately the best "female atmospheric metal" I have ever heard. The slow parts flow as smooth as black metal gets, and the fast parts just "howl at the moon" with intensity. I also picked up "The Burning Shroud" and "Beyond the Wandering Moon" both of which are also excellent, but none compare to this. Don't let the words "female atmospheric metal" scare you. This CD is primal, and nothing like Cradle of Filth, Covenant, etc. It is not primitive, and a girl plays in the band, which is why it sorta fits into the definition of "female atmospheric metal", but it is still extreme as hell.

Lyrics are of course in the "evilwarblackmetalforestmoonworship" vein, but are still very well done, and avoid major cheese. It is also interesting to hear a female perspective on real black metal since the genre is flooded with males (or terrible bands with females). Unlike Cradle and Covenant, Morrigan actually contributes to the lyrics and music, so you do get a taste into the mind of the 'true' female black-metaller.

Is it raw? Nope. Is it 'true'? Hell yeah!!
