The best tracks (although they're all superb) are 'Frankenstein' and 'That's Just What You Are'. The theme seems to be relationships gone wrong and wrangled record deals. In particular 'That's Just What You Are' can be interpreted in several different ways, either as a swipe at an old boyfriend or the record company that meant there was a considerable gap between this album and her last. Aimee Mann is the master of cutting barbs maintained with a laid-back attitude and the result is a soundtrack-friendly, immediate and intelligent second album.
Never sinking into ballad territory this is a bare anaylisis of Mann's own feelings and as an incredibly personal album it works even better. In short, each album of Mann's seems like a masterpiece and this is no exception.
