A Neglected Masterpiece

Two years out from the release date, "I'm With Stupid" has essentially disappeared from the music world's consciousness. A revival awaits, I'm certain. This is a rare 90s rock album that can hold its own with the best of the Beatles, Stones, Bowie, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and other great record-makers with something quite personal to say. Her teaming with multi-instrumentalist Jon Brion creates a flexible musical soundscape for her oddly expressive (but obviously trained) voice and intensely focused lyrics. Aimee's a hedgehog, she knows one thing better than anyone else, romantic kiss-off, and her lyrics brilliantly document the soul in scornful torment. I am aghast that songs like "Amateur," "You Could Make a Killing," "All Over Now" "Choice in the Matter" and "Superball" aren't played constantly on the radio. You poor folks who haven't heard it!
