I want to start off by saying I had heard of Aimee Mann before seeing the movie "Magnolia" but I had never heard one of her songs.I rented the movie and ignored her music video on the 2nd disc for "Save Me" and then I bought it,heard the song "Wise Up"
fell in love and watched the "Save Me" music video.Well when people say that Aimee Mann is an underated singer well it's the truth.Mann's voice is absolutely amazing.Her vocals and lyrics are so soulfoul she can make a song that would be stupid be good,
not that there are songs on the album that are stupid until they ran out of Mann's songs. The first song on the album is called
"One" and is a jazzed up remake of Harry Nillsens(I think that's his last name) song. Mann sings the song in a very sweet yet dull voice as if she doesn't care about the song but it is an amazing song when sung by Mann. In the case of the next song
"Momentum" which is featured in all the magnolia TV spots.
"Momentum" is a great song,very fast and upbeat,one of my favorite songs EVER. Then we have a few more until we reach the very slow and powerful "Wise Up" which transpired one of the best scenes in the movie.We then continue to the last song by Aimee Mann on the soundtrack (they're are nine in all) with the Oscar nominated "Save Me" which features Mann sitting in a room with the characters of Magnolia singing.I bought this album and after hearing Aimee Mann I plan to buy quite a few more.Awesome.
This is a must own for any music lover.A-(because of the songs by the other people,for Mann A+)
