Aimee Mann's voice carries more than most

The title song of 'Til Tuesday's debut album "Voices Carry" is probably remembered more for the haunting music video than for Aimee Mann's evocative lyrics, which have always been the strength of her work. Simply put, Aimee Mann is a poet and her music almost always serves as a vehicle to set up the tenor and import of her words. In a world where we tend to dismiss the actual lyrics her work is one that demands you open up the little booklet and check out the words. Musically the other two 'Til Tuesday albums are much stronger, although some might appreciate the more minimalist style found on most of these tracks. In addition to "Voices Carry," I think you will find that fast paced "Looking Over My Shoulder," the somber "You Know the Rest," and the sparklingly ironic "Maybe Monday" to be the other prime tracks on the album, both musically and lyrically.
