Not like moon safari - that's why I like it!

I was a bit reluctant to buy this album after I had bought Moon Safari which I was not too keen on (see my review). A friend persuaded me that I should give them another chance and lent me this.

Back in the days when I was a ballroom disc jockey in the Mecca in Sunderland, North-East England, as well as that wonderful music coming from the west coast of America, I was quite partial to a bit of what became known as 'Krautrock', an epithet which I believe is not terribly complementary. All of the old names come to mind when I think about it such as Can, Ash Ra tempel, Cluster and of course, Tangerine Dream.

I was sceptical when I first put on this album but as it progressed I found myself reminiscing about the early 1970s and the two names that kept coming into my head were Klause Schultze and Edgar Froese. As the album developed I began to open up to this band who showed that they were not mere pop dilettantes but have a more serious side.

Another couple of plays and I was hooked almost enough to think that after Magma and Daft Punk they are one of the best musical exports ever to come out of France. Not counting Ms. M. Mattieu but that is another story.

There are lots of other reviews about this album that look at individual tracks but if you like your electronic music serious with a broader approach this is the place to look.
