Solid work

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
Air's second album is certainly not the same muted affair as their first release, Moon Safari. The sonics trade subtlety for electronic bombast with mostly engaging results. There are a few cringe-inducing moments (such as the sappy chorus of "How Does It Make You Feel?"), but they are hardly enough to spoil one's enjoyment of the recording as a whole.

Overall the mood is one of dark trippiness infused with brief moments of epic grandeur. One might complain about the seemingly unfocused direction of the music from track to track, but after a few listens it seems only natural that "Radio #1" should slide into the laid-back aural pastiche of Beck's "The Vagabond", or that the faux-country trappings of "Wonder Milky Bitch" should give way to the awe-inspiring cheesiness of "Don't Be Light."

In other words, a solid and entertaining piece of work.
