Alanis Unplugged
Review Score:

(10/10)
To experience Alanis fully and truly, one must hear or see her live. Her voice envelopes the words and music she has written expressing the either rash, loving, tortured or self-undulgent feeling she had at the time. Some may say that a career that has spanned as short as hers has, does not deserve an unplugged album. She however, is one of the true artists of our time and does deserve one. Why? Because performing is where Alanis excels. The power she posesses while belting out her jauggernaut singles and ballads is irreplaceable to anything you will hear in a long time.
Not everything on this album is tried and tested, there are new songs on it, as well as amazing renditions of her 'classics'. You Learn, Head over Feet, Princes Familiar, Ironic and You Oughta Know are sung in the tune of the originals but are changed. Even with the changes, the angst comes through with an acoustic flair. Incredible to say the least. Joining You, That I Would Be Good, These are the Thoughts are new to her repitore and do not lack by any means. These songs, from the second album, also have her ad lib trills and tune changes, making the songs a completely new experience.
The new songs we are treated to are No Pressure Over Cappuccino, I was Hoping, and King of Pain. King of Pain is a cover of the classic Sting song; and unlike so many people, her cover does justice to the piece. Uninvited is a thought provoking piece from the City of Angels soundtrack. One of Alanis self-proclaimed favourites to preform, listeners can tell why when they hear this last selection on the LP.
Experience Alanis Morissette at her best, experience her live-to-tape, in concert. You will not be disappointed and will definetly not unplug your stereo while listening.
