Alanis Morissette

Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie

HARD WON PEACE FROM WORLD'S BRAVEST ARTIST

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
In "Supposed former infatuation junkie" Alanis Morissette shares with us her thoughts about the dark sides of the human spirit, through such songs as "Thank U" (desillutionment), "Would not come" (depression), "Your congratulations" (anxiety) and "Joining you" (suicidality). Dark the subjects may be, but they are dealt with in a daring, light and uplifting way. Her music - and the empathy of her beautiful voice - accompany these lyrics to make the experience of listening to "SFIJ" a rare and precious one.

Even we who are fortunate not to have been troubled by the dark sides of the human spirit, know how to appreciate her reflections, as they also provide us with original outlooks on humanness and spirituality in general. Personally, "SFIJ" contributed to broaden my horizons in a way that I'd never experienced with a music album before.

Let me mention, though, that I was left utterly desillutioned - for the first time in my life - when I got my hands on Alanis Morissette's miserable follow-up, "Under rug swept". If you enjoyed "URS", "Supposed former infatuation junkie" is probably nothing for you.
