Alice In Chains

Tripod

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
Alice in Chains is one of the few bands to never put out a bad album, and tripod (so nicknamed because of the three legged dog, and a subtle reference to a three legged camera, due to the medias intense ramblings and rumours that circulated this album, and the scrutiny that they put forth) signifies the last true album AIC would put out besides their unplugged set. Straying away from the softer acoustic vibe of jar of flies and regaining the overall animosity and hard metal sound that seperated AIC apart from any other band at the time, this album was the perfect way for Alice to leave rock behind. From the opening track Grind where Staley exploits the pressure that the media put on them to release an album after Jar of Flies, to the closing Over Now we realize that AIC will always remain in the hearts of those that grew up and lived through the "grunge" movement of the late 80s and early 90s. Songs like So Close, signify the troubles of coming up with ideas for an album, while head creeps has such a strange vibe and some of the catchiest lyrics that stick in your head the whole day, and show just how far Alice have come. Though not my favorite AIC album, that would have to go to the stellar Jar of Flies, it is definitely a good starting point for any listener of fine rock. If you like the harder songs, like grind, again and so close lean more towards dirt for your next purchase, if you enjoy the slower songs: Heaven Beside You, and Shame in You then get up off your butt and get Jar of Flies. If you aren't impressed by the emotions and feelings that album stirs up, especially No Excuses then just stop listening to rock and go pop on some N Sync and wallow in your pop egocentricies.
