Man what happend here? 3.2 stars
Review Score:

(6/10)
You know, with two very awesome albums, and two overly impressive EP's and then come along this bleak, murky muddy mess. But many things could be considered for the causes of this album. First and foremost, laynes drug addiction. This album is damming proof that shooting up and mixing it with a musical creation can definitely weigh down on the quality of the music. It's pretty tragic at the same time, layne was an incredible singer and a person, but drugs so unfortunately got him indefinitely. I'm not trying to be rude, but rather factual and if I'm offending anyone here, and especially over zealous grunge fans then so be it.
The good: Despite the fact that 90% of this album is murky and muddy, there are some considerable high points here. Tunes such as "brush away" with it's eerie guitar intro. Or "heaven beside you" and is quite possibly one of AIC's best tunes, and they have there fair share of them. "Shame in you" is definitely a interesting song, love the somber mood along with the vocals that seemed to have and effort put into them. "God am" I don't know why, but I like this song, can't really explain it. Lastly, "over now" is pure and classic AIC material, dark, and highly rhythmic it's a really good tune to end an album.
The bad: Honestly, from a musically driven opinion only five good tunes I found on here, and I have heard this album many times and have be as open minded as humanly possible. It's as if they were not even trying, and it's sad. Laynes vocals go pretty much no where, Cantrell's guitar playing is muddy as hell and at times shows with the exception of the tunes I fancy show only glimmers of creational sparks, kinneys drumming is ok, and Inez's bass lines are like Jason newsted's lines on "and justice for all", pretty much non-evident.
Inconlusion, buy this album only if a AIC fanatic, it has it's moments but as a beginner I would not bother. Still, I listen to it regularly as in the off chance that something could catch my ear that has not before on the past.
