Good, but not great.

I was a bit hasty in giving this album five stars. I thought I would like it more with time, and well, I guess I do a bit, but it still is not that great of an album. There are some good songs ("We Die Young", "Man in the Box", "It Ain't Like That"), some good riffs now and then, killer bass lines, and some really good solos, but there just isn't anything special about it. It's very bleak and dirgey, and if you like that kind of stuff, you'll love this, but I find that it doesn't quite hold my attention throughout the album. I could have swore that I saw a review that said that "Love Hate Love" was the best song ever written. Unless you'd heard nothing else but Korn and Limp Bizkit, I don't see how that is so. Compare it to "Down in a Hole", there is no comparison. But, to each his own, I guess. If you want some really good stuff from AIC, buy "Jar of Flies" or "Dirt". This is only for the completist. There is nothing on here that can compete with "Angry Chair", "No Excuses", or "Down in a Hole". This album is mainly just something to put on for atmosphere. If you like Alice in Chains, you must check out Dust for Life. In one album, they have proven themselves to be on the level with Layne and Co. ...This album was definitely a rough stage for AIC. Not bad, but they have done better.
