That their 2nd acoustic excursion was recorded in a mere 7 days and could still sound so incredible almost defies explanation. A large improvement over SAP, this EP demands frequent and repeated listening and shows a band at the height of its creative powers. The bare "Nutshell" has some of Layne Stayley's best singing(with such lines as "If I can't be my own, I'd feel better dead"). "Don't Follow" has both Stayley and Jerry Cantrell in an almost country bittersweet harmony. If that wasn't enough, the 3 chord "No Excuses" is one of the best songs they've ever done, sounding as close to upbeat as the band can get. I can't give enough praise to this masterpiece that served as the blueprint for such pretenders as Staind and Days Of The New. Go to the source and get the original.
