this will take your mind off all your problems
Review Score:

(10/10)
this album has some of the best songwriting i have ever heard. jerry cantrell is not an exceptional guitarist, but his songwriting ability blows any other guitarist out there today completely out of the water. if you listen to this album, you will realize that you are experiencing one hell of a musical journey
rotten apple- very cool downtuned riff with haunting, spacey vocals from staley
nutshell- this song made me cry the first time i heard it. it is so depressing and beautiful. if you want to hear an even better version of it, pick up mtv unplugged
no excuses- one of my favorite radio hits of the nineties. listen especially to the lyrics and the beautiful guitar chords jerry cantrell chose for this song
i stay away- this is my favorite riff of all time. you will absolutely fall in love with this whole album after hearing this one riff. it is complex enough that it does not grow old, it has a weird, beautiful melody, and it is so emotional when played along with laynes singing
whale and wasp- another great example of cantrells uncanny ability as a songwriter. this is a haunting instrumental with layered guitar parts
dont follow- incredible emotion is shown throughout this song, and you feel so good when the harmonica comes in and jams at the end. yet another beautiful riff from cantrell
swing on this- i think this is effective because although it does not fit in with the tortured mood of the rest of the album, it uplifts the listener with a funky bass line and catchy vocals. nice way to end the album.
overall, my only complaint is that this album needed to have about twice as many tracks, but that would only take away from the fact that every song on this album is exceptional
