Many bands with certain albums more or less have gone with the notion of quality over quantity, pink floyd, Rush and so on. Jar of flies should of in my opioin been an album, but came as a EP. The second EP since 1992's "sap." Both are very good and at times proves to be better than some of their album meterial. Built upon a acoustic/eletric fusion that seems to work very well jar of flies is very solid, except for track 7 wich sounds like something the food network would use as a commercial soundbite,or the opening bass line along with the drumming. To bad at least in my opioin that this would be the last exceptional studio meterial AIC were to do, due to 1995's "tripod."

This EP starts off with "rotten apple" wich has a very neat bass line and the trademark layne stayley vocals. While "nutshell" is by many AIC fans considered one of alice in chains's best songs ever, how right they are. A very good tune to listen to, espeacily wether your feeling down or whatever. "I stay away" and "No excuses" are definetly among the more known AIC tunes and among my faves. "whale and whasp" is definetly and interesting tune, simple and intrumental which shows cantrell's ability to pull of a farily neat solo. I like the country vibe of "don't follow" and which also happens to another one of my faves.

In conclusion, I would more than highly suggest jar of flies to music,rock, alternative fans alike.Lastly....enjoy and in may record stores this Ep is also at very cheap price.
