Jar Of Flies ties Dirt and Sap for AIC's best album. That is a large accomplishment since all AIC's albums are great, and definitely worth buying. This album is short, sweet and compact. While many bands would just add some filler to chew up time, Alice refrains from doing this. The result is a set list which includes no filler at all. If you're new to AIC, this is a great place to start. It's mainly some of thier softer stuff, but unlike most bands, they retain their hard, dark edge while remaining appealing. This is one of the few metal albums that is just beautiful, and all the way through. It doesn't jsut fave sparks of greatness, it's a forest fire of brilliance. Layne Staley had one of the most unique and intriguing voices in the history of rock, and Jerry Cantrell is capable of amazing arrangements and tasteful, elegant solos. Both these aspects of Cantrell's play really shine through on "Whale and Wasp." This album should be in everyone's collection, no matter what their age, or musical preferance, it transcends boundaries.
