Alice In Chains

Jar Of Flies

Possibly Alice In Chain's Best Album

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
Any Alice In Chains fan knows that the band has two sides. The softer, sometimes acoustic side shown on albums like Sap and Unplugged. The other is the heavier side shown on Dirt and Facelift. This is one of the softer albums. This is also their best. Although only a 7 song EP, this album has 2 of Alice In Chain's greatest songs, No Excuses and Rotten Apple. The album starts off with the latter. Rotten Apple is a great acoustic song by itself, but is greatly improved by the opening electric solo. Easily in my all time top 5 AIC songs. Later on in the album comes No Excuses, the other top song from this album. This song was obviously heartfelt. Pay attention to the lyrics and you will hear references to the late Layne Staley's life. The rest of the album is very solid as well. Nutshell is another highlight of the album. Words cannot describe this album, though, so I suggest you buy it. If you are looking for heavier Chains such as Godsmack or Them Bones, pick up Dirt or possibly Facelift. But Jar Of Flies portrays the softer side of the greatest band of the 90's.
