I too have recently heard the news of the untimely demise of one of the bands which started it all, and I too (like many others) dug out the old albums (Facelift, Dirt) and listened to them. ...
This album summarizes that career most brilliantly. While dirt and facelift were hard and heavy, they were what the band did naturally. Jar of Flies was something that had to be worked for, you could feel it from the first chords to the last jazzy beat that faded away. This album has stayed with me since it's release many years ago, getting played once a week or more (at least), no small feat in a crowd of 300 cd's.
Its this album I simply put forward to those who do not have it. Buy it. You'll love it. You will never regret owning this, you will only regret not having owned it sooner.
