You need to have this one for sure! Grunge at its acoustic best. Its unplugged but flows with gallons of energy. Staley and Cantrell work up a dark delightful ambience , and the droning bass in the background creates a deep profound atmosphere. The album might not have gone down the throat of dyed-in-the-wool hard-rocking grunge lovers, but personally i consider it a masterpiece. This album goes with me wherever i go. Not even one sunday evening of mine has gone without a dose of this album. songs like 'rooster' , 'would' and 'angry chair' have had the best possible acoustic rendition. The album shows the dexterity of its creators. Nirvana had Cobain ranting in unplugged, but the vocals of staley in his unplugged version are more adapted to the concept. Nothing has been lost in the recording as far as the content or expression is concerned. Layne Staley's genius has emerged so beautifully through this one - the melody in melancholy and vice versa. Of course Sean Kinney's drumming made all the bleeding angst find the right beat, not to mention Mike Inez who set the over riding bleak gloomy environment.
Turn the bass high , turn the lights off, sit back and take a trip down the brooding dark endless highway.
