Alright people, here's the Avril lowdown (for this C.D. anyway). There seems to be something about her that inspires extreme feelings in one way or another. But that is Avril herself: here is the issue about her CD.
There is nothing overly compelling about it. "My Happy Ending" is a rather good song, not profound in the way that a more "classic" and "here to stay" musician would write, but for a pop artist it is pretty good. A few other songs are nice, like "Nobody's Home," which is less radio-single-ish, "Who Knows" is not bad (not great though), "Fall To Pieces" and "Freak Out" are also not bad (and sort of good), and "Slipped Away" is okay but gets annoying fast. The problem is that there isn't enough diversity or grab-you-and-not-let-go goodness to make this CD truly recommendable. It hovers on the better side of mediocre: not bad enough to dis, not good enough to get excited about.
That said, I am not crying over buying this CD. I probably would again, but only if I was wandering around with an extra fifteen dollars in my pocket, molding. But if you really love Avril, buy it. If you're her fan, you'll be glad to add it to your collection.
