The lyrics on Avril's new CD are good, you can definetly tell she put a lot of work into them, but they are also kind of repetitive. Even the first time I listened to it, I got pretty bored about halfway through. Avril can belt, for sure, but she needs to show some different sides of her voice. Plus, she needs to learn some stylizing techniques. There's no added ups or downs in the way she sings, making you just sit there and wait for something to happen. Whatever song she sings, whatever the subject matter is, she doesn't show any emotion in her voice, so you're listening to her songs, and it just seems like she's a poker face about all of these deep subjects she's talking about. She never shows any vulnerabilty; her voice is always strong and has an angry tone to it.
The reason I bought this CD was because I loved the last one and I heard Don't tell me and My Happy Ending, and so I thought the rest of her songs would be like that as well. I was wrong. The
only songs that stuck with me after listening to it were Nobody's Home and the style of Slipped Away. The rest I didn't even care if I heard them again or not. Actually, I'd rather not.

In a time when there are not many voices there you can sing to if you're not the kind of person with a Hip-Hop type voice, this CD is good because it's something you can try to replicate without sounding slutty like with Britney or something. But if there were a version without lyrics, it would be better because then you could stylize your rendition of the songs. So, from a singer's stand point, I would just recommend downloading Don't Tell Me, My Happy Ending, and Nobody's Home off of the internet, or get their singles. You won't miss out on much.
