"Mellow Gold" is the favorite of my Beck collection, but "Odelay" is a good one, as well. None of the songs are alike, and feature the biggest mix of musical genres ever clogged into one song, thanks to a tape sampler which includes samples of his favorite artists. Beck is a good songwriter, but he is better represented in "Mellow Gold" and "One Foot In The Grave". None of the songs keep the same sound for long, constantly changing chords, samples, and instruments. I'm not a fan of rap music at all, but "Derelict" and "Novacane" are still pretty good. "Jack-Ass", "Devil's Haircut", "The New Pollution", "Readymade","Sissyneck", and "Ramshackle" are my favorite songs. The only song which is completely unnecessary is "High 5", which is pure rap rubbish. (No Offense). All else is good. Who else could come up with lyrics that talk about devils & discount orgies, androids hooked on novcacane, pagans & horse's asses, drifters writing their wills on three-dollar bills, brothers pissing in cups then getting killed, and laid-back behind-the-wheel loneliness?
