With her debut album, Christina fascinated me, but I think this is what convinced me of her true potential.
"Mi Reflejo," released late in 2000, unleashed a serious of rythmic, throbbing, get-out-of-that-seat-and-dance-with-me songs that swept Spanish-speaking countries accross the globe. While they were covered minimally here [I dare you to find the "Falsas Esperanzas" video on any American fansites], they helped her earn more fans who otherwise may never have gotten to hear of her or her music.
I think it's obvious that "Falsas Esperanzas" is most likely the star track of the album, but "El Beso Del Final" is positively haunting, "Cuando No Es Contigo" delivers the most fun dance track she's done to date and "En La Distancia" is beautifully sung and written.
I give this album four stars for only a couple of reasons.. it's my opinion that the translation songs don't really apply very well.. somewhere along the way they lost literal meaning and sound odd in places. I also don't think much of her ballad. Sure, she gives it her best, but it's bland overall.
Well worth picking up, but I'd recommend buying "Stripped" or "Lady Marmalade" first to see her full potential.
