I wonder if there is a band that stirs more devotion in their followers than Cocteau Twins. You will find that many fans will tell you why Four Calendar Cafe is not as good as their other albums or why it is better. There are those 4AD snobs that disowned some of CT's finest works because the band had left the sometimes closed-minded record label. Then there are those fans that only like Cocteau Twins' later works. Everyone will always have their opinions about what albums and tracks are the best. Putting all of that aside, this CD is a very fine work of art, full of beautiful melodies and pleasing chords. The CD is very gentle and you might need to listen to it a few times before you will understand it and appreciate it. It took me 10 times before I really liked it. So give it a good chance before you go and tell everyone how it just doesn't compare to "Treasure" or "Victorialand" or whatever. Try out the last track "Pur," an unquestionable masterpiece.
