Heaven or Las Vegas

This ain't no Las Vegas. It's pure Heaven!

"Heaven or Las Vegas," the 1990 album from Cocteau Twins, was the Scottish trio's second US release. While diehard fans already had prior UK imports like "Treasure" and "Victorialand," this album introduced the Twins to mainstream American audiences and it was a relative success upon relase. It doesn't have the etheral magic of "Victorialand," but "Heaven or Las Vegas" is still one of the group's best efforts. The opener, "Cherry Coloured Funk," sets the tone for the rest of the album, which brings us to the single "Iceblink Luck," the heavenly title track, the warm and lush "I Wear Your Ring" and the fine closer "Frou-Frou Foxes In Midsummer Fires." The arrangements are well-done, and Liz Frazer's voice, though still hard to understand, is unmistakably unique and angelic. Why bother forking out mega cash for pricey chill-out import CDs, when you can own this group's entire discography? "Heaven or Las Vegas" is a mastery of mood and atmosphere, and comes highly recommended.
