DMB has caught a lot of flak from fans for Everyday. It's been criticized for having too much studio, too little band, too much Ballard, and not enough Lillywhite.

As a diehard Dave Matthews Band fan, I had to purchase this album. On my first listening, I was blown away. Each and every song had an excitement, as well as a poignancy that affected me greatly. Dave Matthews is an incredible lyricist - although sometimes it can be hard to understand him - and actually listening to the message in each song should cure any nay-sayer.

I could go into detail about each and every track on this album, but here are three highlights:

Track 2 - "When the World Ends" is classic DMB with a twist. Dave's voice soars, while in the background the entire band sounds like they're having a blast. The ending can be disconcerting, until you realize that it's a statement. It cuts off, symbolizing that the world has ended. This was done on purpose, because the band does the same thing at their live performances.

Track 9 - "Fool to Think" is absolutely beautiful. The quick pace represents an urgency and energy in the song that is sometimes lacking in their slower songs. Put this one on repeat!

Track 10 - "Sleep to Dream Her" brings a mellow, starry-eyed note to the album. It's blue and melancholy, bright and hopeful. "I know I'll miss her later / Wish I could bend my love to hate her." Sad and lovely.

The only criticism is that this album doesn't showcase the talents of the rest of the band as much as previous albums. Carter Beauford said in a Rolling Stone interview that "Everyday was a Dave Matthews album." All the same, it's a great addition to your DMB collection.
