Not as good as their past albums.

I was troubled by this album for quite some time, thinking about it, and I think I'm finally able to write down what I think. Hellfire Club is definitely better than Mandrake, but it's not as good as Theater of Salvation or Vain Glory Opera, both of which were excellent. I think the problem with Hellfire Club is that each song follows a very simple and predictable formula, with the choruses and verses, and it gets a bit too repetitive. Past releases had a lot more variation; on Vain Glory Opera, for example, each song was very unique from one another. The same cannot be said about Hellfire Club. Take, for example, The Piper Never Dies. It starts out nice, but falls apart halfway through the song. Each song seems to out-stay its welcome, adding another chorus and plummeting into repetitiveness. The music isn't as unique or creative as previously releases, either. I found myself bored of this release after only two weeks, and I've only listened it to a few times since then, instead putting Theater of Salvation or Vain Glory Opera, or Lost Horizon's A Flame to the Ground Beneath in my CD player. After Mandrake, which itself was just good and not great, this offers the same "It could have been better" feeling.
