Not Edguy's Best But Fresh

Intesting release because Edguy took a few chances with this release by adding a few very pop oriented songs mainly "King Of Fools" and "Lavatory Love Machine". The interesting thing for me at least is that these two songs are really great but the other songs which are more similar to material on their previous releases seems to be not very exciting. At least not as good as similar style material on thier previous masterpieces "Vain Glory Opera" and "Theater Of Salvation".

Comparing to their previous release Mandarake I like Mandrake better overall. There are more good songs.

I guess I am mixed on this album. I really like the new pop songs but if I had to pick one Edguy album it would definitely be either VGO or TOS where they were more extravagant. This is kind of a slightly stripped down Edguy and I don't think the overall effort is quite as high regarding the musicianship or the songwriting. I am not in awe of this album like I was with previous releases. It's cool and all but nothing special. I can't these words are coming out of my mouth but I almost think Edguy should do the next album with songs similar to the two pop songs that seems to be where their hearts are right now and they are good at that. Plus, mainman Tobias Sammett is such a likable little ball of energy I could actually see this band making a huge splash as a pop metal band. They've got the energy and the spark to make it happen unlike a lot of failed past attempts by metal bands to turn pop metal and cash in.
