Great rock!

I've been a fan of the Eels since Electro-Shock Blues, but after the mediocre Daisies of the Galaxy, I really didn't expect E and co. to put out another outstanding album. Enter Souljacker. This is a complete U-turn from the acoustic-based DOTG, and is like a heavier, stronger return to the alt-rock sound of Beautiful Freak. Only this time, there's nothing in the way to drag the songs down. Before Souljacker, I always had to cope with the "corniness factor" that came with listening to songs like "Beatiful Freak" or "Tiger in my Tank" where E failed to sound innovative enough. Now, I can listen to just about any song on this without letting out a groan of discontentment. "Souljacker 1" and "What is This Note" add to the ability for rocking out that "Rags to Rags" and "Flyswatter" had on previous albums. "Friendly Ghost," 'Bus Stop Boxer," and "Souljacker 2" are all great ballads, even more haunting than some that would be found on Electro-Shock Blues. The only concern I have with this is that "Fresh Feeling" could easily become a hit single, and draw the wrong crowd to the Eels. But still, this is a great work of art, and the best album of 2002 so far.
