Total Nostalgia

I was a kid when I first heard "Twilight" on the radio, and it had me mesmerized. It was upbeat, larger than life in a fun way. Years later, in college, I came across some E.L.O. recordings at a music store and remembered that song. I bought it just for that track, telling myself it was still worth it even if I didn't like the other tracks. Well, after the first few minutes of listening I had a Proust-like experience- I was hit with images from when I was kid, and what my life was like when I first heard the song: sights, feelings, people...It was awesome. I liked the rest of the album too- some songs more than other, but even the those I didn't love were not necessarily skipped over. This album tells the story of the love a man feels for this robot in futuristic, sci-fi tones. It's an interesting concept(album with a story/theme) and it kind of works, too. This is loud, vibrant music- think lots of "special effects" if this were a movie. Sometimes you need that- for the pure entertainment value, for the creativity and upbeat nature of it. If you like to kick back, listen to all kinds of music, and don't take yourself or your music collection way too seriously, you might discover a little treasure here. For me, it's sheer nostalgia- despite the futuristic theme, I'm always transported to the past whenever I listen.
