A Good Album, But Not His Best...
Review Score:

(8/10)
I purchase this album almost a month ago, but even after I have listened to it several times, many of the songs don't stand out to me. I can't remember some songs when I'm not listening to them, because they all sound similar (except "They Call Her The Cat"). Although I am a huge Elton John fan I was slightly disappointed with this CD. Many of my negative opinions were formed because of earlier reviews I read, but after listening to it I like it much better. Obviously it is not as good as Songs From The West Coast, but it has it's high points. There are some good and even great songs on this CD. Here's what I would rank them 1-5:
1. Weight of the World- 4
2. Porch Swing in Tupelo- 4 Kind of southern like me, slightly upbeat and overall pretty good.
3. Answer in the Sky- 4 This was the first song I heard from the PTR. I immediately loved it.
4. Turn The Lights Out When You Leave- 3 Kind of country-sounding, which is not really something I look for in an Elton J. song.
5. My Elusive Drug- 4 The verses start off kind of slow but it gets MUCH better in the chorus, which is why it got a 4 from me.
6. They Call Her The Cat- 3 Someone called this "tacky" in another review and that got me thinking. "Yeah it sort of is tacky". However, it is upbeat, the only one ont the CD, so that's a plus.
7. Freaks In Love- 4 I thought I wouldn't like it but after listening to it I tought "Hey, this is pretty catchy" Also the lyrics aren't as weird as I thought they would be.
8. All That I'm Allowed- 5 Should be a single in the US. It's one of the best songs on the CD. Chorus has one of the best melodies of all the songs, and has been a favorite since I first heard the clip.
9. I Stop And I Breathe- 4 It's one of my sister's favorites. I think it starts of slow but the chorus is good and improves the song.
10. Too Many Tears- 5 A little preachy but is one of the most upbeat songs and one of my favorites.
11. It's Getting Dark In Here- 5 Definately one of the best songs.
12. I Can't Keep This From You- 5 MY FAVORITE SONG (on the CD) This is a excellent way to end the album. This song is a good reason to listen to the whole CD (You know you will get to hear this one!) It shows his vocal abilities. Definately the best
While this CD has low points I would advise you to buy it. You will not be wasting your money. I listen to it almost everyday (twice today) and it improves everytime. The best songs are the last five. Listen to Freaks in love. It sound like "Little Jeannie" when it starts off. I always start to sing it. Also "I Stop And I Breathe" sounds like "Don't Go Breaking My Heart". Overall a very good album especially for a 57-year-old. This album should be called "43 at 57". Maybe that's a tad redundant.
