Well, for starters I certainly cannot add much to what has already been written concerning "Painted From Memory." If given the chance I'd gladly award this disc SIX stars...simply on the merits of Elvis Costaello's beautiful and at times tragic lyrics. Though at times he does tend to be slightly too clever (sans review title), it hardly affects the gorgeous melodies and the mature outlook that this cd reveals with just one listen! It's very difficult indeed to find "Pop" music that carries this much ingenuity and beauty while at the same time maintaining a certain amount of worldweariness about it. I know of no one who at some point, while dealing with a broken heart, hasn't felt the very same emotions that Elvis so vividly describes. Whoever suspected that a broken heart could feel so good...yet hurt so bad! Thank you Burt Bacharach and Elvis... a great disc to put on with a glass of wine and an open wound.
