Enigma's latest CD, The Screen Behind the Mirror, is an almost complete turnaround from ear;oer albums, such as "MCMXC a.D." and "The Cross of Changes." Though each new CD, Cretu has added more and more vocals to the magical compilations he weaves. While "The Screen Behind the Mirror" is a far different style from the earlier chants and lyrical words in different languages, the beautfy of voice now enhances further the flood of music so intricately designed to grab ahold of your emotions. The theme of the album is also enriched with a rather creative transition Cretu imploys: each track "reflects" (the mirror!) a previous song, either in rythm or in lyric. Despite the obvious and wonderful evolution the music of Enigma is undertaking, it can be a dissapointment for the original Enigma-fans when they first hear this CD; instead of instrumentals and pieces with chants, the focus has come away from the instrumentation and towards the vocal registers Cretu has hired. "The Screen Behind the Mirror" is a wonderful addition to any Enigma-fan's collection, but because it doesn't seem to follow the originality of Enigma's earlier works, I give it four stars.
