a masterful take on the Johnson oeuvre

Everything you'd expect, and less, from Clapton. Less, in this case, being a high compliment. You will read many things about the musicianship and respect for the originals from other reviewers, so I won't go there. But I must thank Eric Clapton for not including the Johnson tunes he has done so well in past recordings (Walkin' Blues, Crossroad Blues, Malted Milk Blues) in favor of little-recorded gems (They're Red Hot, Me and the Devil Blues, When You've Got A Good Friend). Clapton is not retreading old ground here; he's expanding the view into the magnificent and scary musical vision of Robert Johnson. Clapton's homage is not reverence, it's loving admiration. If you loved From The Cradle, this is a definite for you.

Now, if he will do the right thing and donate the money somewhere that continues to honor Johnson's legacy...
