Short of a great album; needs a "musical director"

Review Score: (8/10)
It's refreshing not to hear Clapton trundle out tired blues licks and over-done ideas for songs. There are many excellent melodies, themes, and lyrics on this album. Yet this CD is too long and could have easily been so much stronger if 2-3 songs were cut, and the energy level was raised on some of the remainder. Clapton needs a musical director (like Beatles had George Martin) to channel and focus his efforts.
