Hauntingly Beautiful ... a Masterpiece

I'm amazed, reading the reviews, to see that some consider EC to have "sold out" with this CD. If I want classic Slowhand, I'll pull out the album by that name, or Derek and the Dominos, or some Cream or Bluesbreakers. Clapton demonstrates his true musical genius by his ability to evolve, to cross into a different style, as he also did on Unplugged, and by his ability to write lyrics that will turn you inside out, body, mind and soul. The arrangements and orchestration on this CD are mesmerizing, as are the lyrics and vocals. The old Slowhand played guitar like few others could. The Clapton who emerges here writes from a soul whose depths few can fully comprehend. I listen to this CD over and over and over, and never tire of it. This is not ear candy; this is blues lyric poetry set to an entirely different beat.
