Nothing can better represent the dark humor of this album than the cover art: on the front, the pure white majesty of the bird under the delicate script of the album title; on the back, the meat rack brimming with skinned fowl and severed beef heads. The music found within is pummeling and otherworldly, never settling for a surface glance at an ugly life but determined to plunge through the skin and probe the slimy gore underneath. The song writing here is twisted and interesting, but always extremely tight. Seldom does a group of musicians gel this well for the full hour that this disc runs; rock beats rise above the blase norm, bass lines provide a thoughtful groove, guitar riffs rip through earth and sky alike, keyboards wrap the violence in an eerie half-light, and Patton's vocals cavort through the storm with expert intensity.

This album is not for the faint of heart, but if "emotional music has quite an effect on you", then you should take this soul-drenching journey over and over and over again.
