Who am I to buck the system? Since everyone else gives it 5 stars, I guess I have to as well! No really, it deserves 5 stars! An execellent album. This was my introduction to Fates and after I bought it, I played it over and over again. It's hard for me to pick a fav off this CD, but if I'd have to, I'd say "Fata Morgana" but they all rock!

I think the addition of Frank Aresti only helped this effort - I think he and Jim are (oops, were - it sucks that he's gone!) a better tandem than Jim & Victor were and their styles fit together well, and they are both great guitar players. Just check out the intro and solos in the fourth track ("Guardian") and you'll see what I mean - Jim even throws in some acoustic work! John Arch shows he can sing (start of "Giant's Lore") as well as wail (just about everywhere else!) even if he doesn't always sync up with the lyrics in the liner notes. The "Sorceress" contains a cool mention of the two previous albums: "Through the Brocken Spectre rose a lureing Angel..."

This was my favorite Fates album for many years (I like "Perfect Symmetry" & "A Pleasant Shade of Gray" better now) and is still a great CD after all this time! Check it out!
