Craving for Seafood

I Thought I had better call in on Fish cause it had been a long-long time since I had sampled a taste. And such is - although I'd long since turned my back on Marillion - I needed to quench my curiosity - which not only kills the cat; but also catches the fish. So, `Raingods with Zippos` as I zipped through my first listen I was reminded of his almost apologetic voice, not as much struggling, but distinctive - no longer hiding behind the mask of cataclysmic chants but surrendering to soft melodic symphonies, the kind we always suspected his fondness lay firmly wedged within. So the CD starts off with a nice soft piano intro - spoiled only by track 1 `Tumbledown. Then a staccato (could be trade mark Incommunicadoesque) track 2 Mission Statement. But then (and I have to say `but' here, cause I know the whole thing will undoubtedly grow on me) track 3 is `Incomplete', which is complemented by a delightful (almost Chrissie Hynde) female vocal - an instant hit with me. So I'm riding on a high and I move with renewed hope into track 4 `Tilted Cross', and I like - a very cute melody (could be early Genesis) great strings dip along with another female vocal peeking through to assist fish and a true song is born in the land of the tilted Cross. Into the upbeat track 5 `Fathhealer' now, not restoring my own faith but its early days yet - a bit rocky coming after the placid ness felt in the previous number. I stumble onto track 6 `Rites of Passage' which floats with ease upon my ears, a song he has obviously taken great care to carve - and I'm happy for that cause I know he means well - very well with this one. Track 7 `Old Haunts' - an eerie introduction to the mood for the rest of the CD, part 1 of 6 of the epic entitled `Plague of Ghosts'...but I'm all out of time so see for yourself. Good ... I'm rambling, but a tad enlightened that I never found it as bad as I might have done. Music is something I tend not to take as seriously as I once did, which is a shame, but nonetheless, there were 3 possibly 4 tracks on this CD that struck home - thanks for that Fish, ... .
