"Drift" is not only one of the best heavy metal albums I've ever heard, but is one of the best albums, period. It's rare to hear a band go for and get as much as this album does. It's electric, it's acoustic, it attacks then pulls back. It appears to be a "loose" concept album inspired by the death of a friend; it doesn't tell a story, per se, but most of the songs deal with aspects of death. "Drift" is marked by recurring lyrical themes and musical motifs. One thing this CD is not is for the faint-hearted. The lyrical perspective appears to be that of a deceased friend; the aim being to let you experience his frantic and chaotic lifestyle firsthand. The songs are written in both major and minor keys. It is almost exclusively written in 4/4 time, but played in both straight and half time. The recording is astonishingly clear and unrelentingly fierce. The complete lack of exposure given to this album is exhibit number 1 in the current deplorable state of modern rock radio. It's not easy listening but it's certainly worth your time.
