G-Unit may not be original, but they still have talent

In terms of today's recent releases, G-Unit's CD is great. With most CDs, I have to confess downloading only my favorites from the Internet, and not wasting my time or money with buying the entire album. With G-Unit, though, the bootlegged copy of the entire CD that I received made me want to go out and buy the real version on principle alone - if the 4 singles weren't enough to convince me, then listening to the rest of the album definitely would. Although the first single, "Stunt 101," was above average at best and only latently catchy, the uber-hard beat of "Poppin' Them Thangs" combined with the semi-softcore "Smile" and "Wanna Get to Know You" (with its brilliant Red Spyda Marvin Gaye sample) are unstoppable! On the album itself, though, the ultimate hidden gem is by far the piano-laced "G'd Up" - while G-Unit puts its spin on semi-generic content (good), the catchy yet somber chorus sticks (great), and Young Buck's first bars ("my papa never bothered to show me what it was to be a man...") leave a lasting impression on the listener. Clearly, the balanced (Hookmaster 50, chameleon Banks, and the drawling Buck) trio is not at all bad - hell, not even mediocre - they're badASS.
